Disaster Relief and Reconstruction work in Padang, Indonesia

The Evangelical Fellowship Indonesia (PGLII) assembled a relief team from Jakarta and went to Padang after the quake and did food distribution. We concentrated our effort in Padang-Pariaman area since that area was the most damaged area with more then 10.000 houses totally broken.

So far our team and our partners who still work over there up until today have been distributed about 5.000 packages of food (content of rice, noodles, biscuits, milks, sardines, etc).

This is our plan:

  1. Short-term: Emergency Relief Project: Oct - Dec 09
    - Food Distribution
    - Health Care / Medical project
    - Friendship and partnership
    - Survey for long-term projects (build houses and schools, small business, micro enterprise, etc)
  2. Intermediate-term: Jan - June 10
    - Trauma Counseling
    - Build toilets
    - Covering all villages in Padang-Pariaman area with prayer (send prayer team to pray)
    - Training of Christian workers/volunteers over there
    - build houses (Long-term)
    - build schools (Long-term also)
  3. Long-term : June 2010 - Dec. 03 and beyond
    - Build houses and schools
    - Economic recovery by helping people to start small businesses and home industry
    - Sent long-term CP workers

We will working with Habitat for Humanity to build 2.500 houses there.

The fund will be raised by Habitat but we need to mobilized volunteers from churches, at least 10.000 volunteers needed for the next 3 years only for houses project with Habitat. So, PGLII need to raise fund to send volunteers.

Please let us know how can we work together for this ministry.
