NECF: Prayer advisory for Catholic Herald

11 October 2013

Dear Pastors, Elders and Church Leaders,

A Call to Prayer and Unity! Greetings in the name of our precious Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus.

The Court of Appeal has fixed 14 October 2013 to deliver her ruling on the case of the Catholic weekly newspaper, Herald on the use of the word "Allah" in its Bahasa Malaysia section.

This is an important decision and as such, we would urge all churches and prayer groups to set aside time to fast and pray for the outcome of the decision. Do pray for the following:-

  • That justice and the rule of law will be upheld;
  • That the Court of Appeal judges may make the decision without fear and favour and in accordance with established principles of law and constitution;
  • That religious liberty as enshrined in our Federal Constitution will be preserved in our multi-religious nation.

Our holy Scripture informs us to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace as there is one Body and one Spirit; just as we were called to one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 3:3-6, NIV). Hence, we will remain committed to stand with our Bahasa Malaysia-speaking brothers and sisters on this matter as well as continue to strive for justice and peace for our beloved nation.

We linked herewith are the two press releases, the Sabah Council of Churches (translation in Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese) and the Association of Churches of Sarawak (translation in Bahasa Malaysiaand Chinese) expressing their sentiments for your further understanding and prayers.

May God continue to bless those involved and supporting this case for their courage and steadfastness in their faith. Let us all continue to walk humbly with the Lord and move forward in a spirit of reconciliation and love, grace and guided by the Holy Spirit in these times and season of our national journey.

God bless Malaysia!
