Evangelical Christians Give RM100,000 to Pakistani Earthquake Victims

Malaysian evangelicals donated RM100,000 to Pakistani victims of the Oct 8 earthquake through The Star South Asia Quake Fund.

The money was handed to The Star deputy group chief editor II Datuk Wong Chun Wai by a group of pastors from member churches of NECF Malaysia, the national organisation representing evangelical Christians.

Present to witness the cheque presentation were Pakistan High Commissioner His Excellency Major General (R) Talat Munir, Mercy Malaysia exco member Amran Mahzan and over 50 pastors from more than 30 NECF member churches.

NECF Secretary-General Rev Wong Kim Kong extended condolences to the government of Pakistan on behalf of Malaysian evangelical Christians, and expressed grief for the loss of many lives, especially the children.

“As God’s people, we are duty-bound to help where we can. This RM100,000 is our initial sum and we are urging our members to further give generously as we see the immense need there,” he said.

Rev Wong added that charity should also be extended to those in need, regardless of race, culture and religion, and hoped that “by giving to our Muslim friends, we can help to foster better ties between the Christian and Muslim worlds”.
