National Front

1. "Allah" issue

Let us not forget that though the High Court had pronounced on Dec 31, 2009 that the Herald can use the word "Allah", this judgment is yet to be executed pending the government's appeal, which is not forthcoming thus far. Do remember that 2/3 of the 9% Christians in Malaysia are Bahasa speaking. They are mostly the natives of Sabah & Sarawak. Due to the ban on the usage of word "Allah", importing and printing of the Alkitab is restricted, thus depriving them of God's Word.

2. Sarawak Elections

Sarawak will be facing her 10th State Elections any time soon. With growing discontent and various allegations of injustice, corruption and power abuse, let us pray for God's divine hand to be upon our fellow Sarawakians that they would make the right choice for their state.

3. Suicides

Two people commit suicide daily in Malaysia and experts believe the figure could be higher with the many undetermined deaths. It is alarming that teenagers and young adults are taking their own lives in the face of mounting pressure in school, work, dealing with family issues and breakdown in relationships. The National Suicide Registry Malaysia (NSRM) estimated that between January and August last year, a total of 425 people committed suicide, averaging 60 per month.

Around the World

1. Middle East

Since the uproar of Egypt; the Middle East and North Africa states with suppressive regimes are shaking, turning and shattering. While these shakings presents a new and possible democratic future for the region, there are concerns it might be overtaken by certain extreme groups for their own political and religious agenda.

2. Christchurch, New Zealand

The recent earthquake that struck Christchurch caused extensive infrastructure damage and loss of lives. Pray the reconstruction of the city and help to her citizens.

3. Pakistan

Pakistani Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti has been shot dead by gunmen who ambushed his car in broad daylight in the capital, Islamabad. Mr Bhatti (the cabinet's only Christian minister), had received death threats for urging reform to blasphemy laws. The Taliban said they carried out the attack, the second similar murder this year. Pray for God's comfort on Mr Bhatti's family. Pray for his assassinators to be brought to justice. Pray for unjust laws and terrorism to be defeated in Pakistan. Pray for Christians to remain strong in the midst of terror.
