Prayer Alert - A New Low! Our Holy Scriptures Desecrated

Prayer Alert

March 18, 2011

Dear Pastor/Elder/Leader

A NEW LOW! OUR HOLY SCRIPTURES DESECRATED

The National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, Malaysia (NECF) fully endorsed and stand with the statement issued by the Christian Federation of Malaysia dated 17 March 2011 entitled "Holy Scriptures Desecrated".

Evangelical Christians in Malaysia is indeed saddened by the current state of affairs that has befall a nation that prides herself as a successful multi-religious country that accepts all religions in its diversity. The conditions imposed unilaterally by the Home Ministry on 15 March 2011 on one of the importers of the Bahasa Malaysia Bible is not only a mark of disrespect but a further curtailment of the Christians' right to profess and practice her religion without due interference. Such an act is improper and therefore unacceptable.

Download the letter dated 15 March 2011 from the Home Ministry.

Further, the unilateral act of stamping the Bibles by the ministry with the stipulated conditions without prior consent or agreement from the importers only violates the rights of religious groups to manage her own affairs. Such acts are most regrettable and can only cause deep disappointment and anguish on the part of evangelical Christians in the country who at all times have acted in good faith and restrain in ensuring the peace and harmony of the country is maintained without compromising our fundamental beliefs. However, we are indeed grieved and hurt that such good faith has not been reciprocated by the Government.

NECF would therefore reiterate the call by CFM to both East and West Malaysians and from all walks of life, to come together in unity to continue to uphold the fundamental liberty such as freedom of religion and to allow each religion to manage their own affairs without due interference pursuant to the provisions of the Federal Constitution. We also call on the governing authorities to treat with respect the Bible which Christians regard as sacred and the Scriptures of all other religion.

In the light of this pressing circumstance, we urged all evangelical Christians in the country to pray for a dignified and respectful resolution of this matter for the sake and welfare of the nation beginning Sunday, the 20 to 23 March 2011 in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of the impounding of the Bibles at Port Klang.

Prayer Points

  1. Pray for the Government to respect and uphold the Malaysian Christian religious liberty as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the 20/18 Agreement with Sabah and Sarawak
  2. Pray for the Alkitabs held at Port Klang and Kuching to be released without conditions
  3. Pray for the removal of restrictions and condition placed on the import of the Alkitab.
