Prayer Alert for Japan

Prayer Alert for Japan

March 18, 2011

Dear Pastors, Elders & Intercessors,

Below is an email report and request we have just received regarding the situation in Japan and what the Churches are doing. Kindly share this information to your members, intercessors and prayer groups as they continue to uphold Japan in prayer.

Thank you for your prayers as Japan braves this triple tragedy. I have conveyed to the church that people from Malaysia, Singapore and US are praying and they are encouraged. There's some progress at our end as roads are opening for traffic to move towards the quake zone. A fellow missionary, Stephan Smithdorff managed to make his it all the way to Sendai, arriving yesterday evening after a one night and one day's drive. He is meeting up with pastors from various churches to discuss how best we can help. The Fukushima's victims, about 10,000 have been evacuated to neighbouring prefectures of Japan. We will also be sending food supplies and the necessaries to the victims by next week as we are in the midst of gathering the supplies.

Below are some prayer points as you continue to wrestle in prayer for Japan:

  1. Wind and Weather condition - Thank you for praying, so far the wind is blowing in the right direction; that is towards the ocean. Please continue to pray that the wind will keep on blowing in this direction and it will rain in the ocean away from any countries or man inhabited island. Yesterday's temperature dropped below 0 degrees Celsius, many of the victims are suffering from lack of heat and some have died. We will be having some sun without rain and snow till Sunday. Please pray that this weather will hold and continue for the coming days. Gasoline and kerosene is running out, there are not enough fuel to keep the heater going.
  2. Health - Pray for tenacity and good health amongst the victims as they brave lack of food and heat.
  3. Nuclear Power Plant, Tokyo Electric Power and Government - continuous wisdom in tackling this crisis. As we know that efforts to cool down the plants are ongoing, I know not how to solve this problem but our Almighty God is able. Please plead for mercy.
  4. Safety of the rescuers and people working in the Nuclear Plant
  5. Calm and good spirits - Bottled water are running out in most supermarkets and petrol is on ration even where I am staying as of yesterday. There was looting of petrol from the shelter. Pray for unity and calmness. Pray against Depression, as many are heading that direction after watching a week of continuous sorrowful news. So pray that they will call out to God and that they will be surrounded by people who are able to comfort and counsel them.
  6. Stephan's safety as he has to drive back to Kanazawa, which will be more than 10 hour driving journey.
