Prayer Resources for GE 13

NECF has since last year been preparing material for awareness, prayer and action for the 13th General Election. Finally, we are standing on the treshold of a watershed moment for Malaysia. After a long and uncertain wait, the polls must now be called by June. We urge churches to make use of the short time left to intensify prayer for the elections and for the continuing work of building the nation beyond the elections.

As such, we are pleased to make available to you prayer resources developed by NECF and Prayer United. The leaflet, Prayer for the Nation’s 13th General Election is a simple print out by NECF that you can supply to your congregation members. This is available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil to fit the needs of your congregation.

The booklet Prayer United GE13: Mobilising Prayer for General Elections 2013 is in English only and comes in two versions – abridged and with appendix – with lots of useful information. It is a coloured publication that you can print out to disseminate among your church members or use in your prayer meetings.

May we never cease in prayer for our nation and may we also go beyond prayer to act positively in nation-building.

In Christ,
Eugene Yapp
Acting Secretary-General
NECF Malaysia

Prayer for the Nation's 13th General Election

The long-awaited 13th General Election is just around the corner. A total of 222 Parliamentary seats and over double that number of State seats will be up for contest.

Malaysia, as a democratic nation, forms its government through the will of the people as expressed through their votes. The government that is voted into power will have the mandate to govern and administer the nation for a five-year term.

The responsibility of governing a nation is not a trivial matter. The fate and future of Malaysia's 28 million citizens are placed in the hands of the new government. How they run the administration and arrive at their decisions will determine the future of the nation.

Therefore, as Malaysians and as God's people, we must be diligent and careful in casting our votes. We must also be prayerful for the right people to be voted into office so that the incoming government will be one that benefits the nation.

With this in mind, we call upon the Church to pray for the election. The prayer items are divided into five focus areas. Each focus area covers items related to the election.

Please consider using this prayer guide in your personal or group devotions. Churches are also encouraged to use this prayer guide in local church prayer meetings or 24/7 initiatives.

Pray for 13th General Election Initiative

In preparation for our impending 13th General Election, we are calling for the Malaysian Church to intensify their efforts in prayer. We believe this election is crucial and will determine the future of this nation. As the Church, we are called to be the House of Prayer for our nation. As a House of Prayer, we are to stand in the gap and steer this nation unto Him. Therefore we would like to invite you to join us in this initiative that will be conducted nation-wide. Below are some suggestions of what your Church can do in regards to this initiative. Also return to us the response form to indicate your interest in this initiative.

Online Sign-Up for the 13th General Election Prayer Initiative.

Phase 1: From now till dissolution of Parliament

We encourage Churches to:

  1. Adopt their local parliamentary constituency and state seats as well as others outside their area (preferably in rural and churchless areas) for prayer
  2. Organize weekly/frequent prayer walk/drive around their area/town/city; particularly at schools where polling usually take place
  3. Organize/participate in Inter-Church Combine Prayer Meetings for coming GE
  4. Set aside one day in a week to fast and pray
  5. To create 24 hour prayer chain team/s to pray round the clock

Phase 2: From dissolution of Parliament to Election

We call on Churches to:

  1. Organize fasting and prayer throughout this period
  2. Mobilize local 24 hour prayer chain teams to sign up and participate in our 24/7 prayer cover throughout this period

As we pray, the Lord will act on our behalf. May His Kingdom come and His will be done here in our land as it is in heaven. Amen

Malaysia is eagerly waiting for the announcement of her 13th General Election. 222 Parliamentary Constituency seat will be contested that will determine the next Government of the Day for the next five years. As Malaysian, we desire for a government that is just, fair and righteous in her administration. We believe through prayer we can pray in godly men and women into the Parliament and Government. We therefore call upon believers nationwide to begin to uphold the coming election with every parliamentary seat in prayer.
