The Parliament was dissolved on March 4 2004, paving the way for the country's 11th general elections. The polling date is scheduled on March 21, while nomination of candidates is fixed one week earlier, on the 13th.
Every vote count has a decisive influence on the future and wellbeing of this nation. In order for democracy in our country to function effectively, all Malaysians, who are of age, are called to exercise our democratic rights and entitlement/privilege as citizens to cast the ballot wisely.
We, Christians in this nation, all the more, must avoid being indifferent in our attitude towards nation building, but endeavour to fulfil our civil obligations. For we know that "there is no authority except that which God has established" (Romans 13:1). The opportunity for us to be involved in the process by which God institutes authority is a privilege as well as a great responsibility.
Voting is an act of stewardship. It is our responsibility to ensure good governance, to uphold righteousness, to preserve our Constitution, and to maintain freedom of worship in Malaysia.
Let us encourage one another to vote with discretion according to each individual’s conscience, fulfilling our obligations to God and the country.
