Beyond Election 2004 - New Cabinet

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way." (RSV)

As we praise God for the smooth running of the General Election 2004 on March 21, we continue to uphold the government in prayer.

Today, Malaysians have officially given Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Badawi and Barisan Nasional the mandate to govern the country. The new cabinet will be formed by next Wednesday, March 31st (The Star).

Many promises have been made by Barisan Nasional, among them are:

  1. Choose the right people for the interests of this nation and to safeguard the interests of all citizens.
  2. Endeavour to implement people-centred policies.
  3. Heed the needs of the people for better services and more accountable government:
a. Continue the all-out campaign against corruption, without fear or favour.
b. Seek a higher level of performance and integrity among elected representatives.
c. Set performance targets for good governance in the public and private sectors.
d. Reduce bureaucracy and increase transparency in government

For the above to be realized, we need a clean and corruption-free, service-oriented Cabinet with good governance and efficient administration.

Suggested reading: Psalm 33
