Prayer Alert (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Our National Leaders

Description: FYI No. 14 Apr 7, 04

NECF Malaysia "For Your Intercession" No. 14 – April 7, 2004 www.necf.org.my.

 Our National Leaders

The newly appointed cabinet members sworn in before Yang di-Pertuan Agong on March 30th 2004. At the first Cabinet meeting on 31st, the Prime Minister called for personal integrity among the members in order to fulfil the coalition’s pre-General Election manifesto for an effective and efficient government – clean and corruption-free. On the same day, the Cabinet approved a Code of Ethics, which emphasises integrity, honesty and the total rejection of corruption, for all elected BN representatives.

The Cabinet is the highest co-ordinating executive body of all government activities and interests. Many of the most important decisions are made here and it is also responsible for proposing legislation of bills to meet the needs of public and current issues. Its role is significant in the day to day running of the government.

Under the leadership of Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi who believes in the practice of genuine power sharing, the Cabinet may be able to perform its function more effectively for national interests.

Therefore it is important for Christians to recognize its role and responsibilities, and provide prayer support for the Cabinet members, for we know that "the plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD" (Prov. 16:1, NASB). As they make decision on any policy or law, God will direct their steps (16:9).

Suggested prayer points:

Intercede for our national leaders using the passage of Proverb 16.

  1. That the fear of God be always in them, be men of truth
  2. That they hate dishonest gain, discard personal agenda, keep away from bribery and immorality
  3. There be impartiality in law making, just and wise execution of government policies
  4. For effective partnership that places national interests as priority. For humility and willingness to seek godly counsel. "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself." (Phil 2:3; Gal 5:26)
  5. For members who are Christians to be salt & light.
  6. Government is currently formulating 9th Malaysian Plan which will consider all aspects of development (including good values) for the benefit of the rakyat as a whole without marginalizing any group.  Pray for wisdom, transparency and impartiality.
