Prayer Alert (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Just Governance

Description: FYI # 75

NECF Malaysia "For Your Intercession" No. 75 – April 9, 2008  www.necf.org.my

Just Governance

The NST reports that “the Barisan Nasional federal government will stop giving out allocations to new village heads appointed by state governments ruled by the Pakatan Rakyat” (Apr 9). Earlier, the Tourism Minister announced the termination of the tourism memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with those state governments (Star, Apr 5).

The March General Elections saw the Pakatan Rakyat (PKR-DAP-PAS pact) took control of the state governments in Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Penang and Kelantan.

In “seeking a suitable mechanism to ensure the smooth implementation of the federal projects” (Star, Apr 7), the ruling coalition appears to be deliberately by-passing the new state governments. The Malaysian rakyat who live in those states can’t help but wonder: Are we being penalized? Are we not still living in the federation of Malaysia?

The prime minister has in many occasions said that he would be fair to all people, no community would be left behind in any development projects, and that he would not fail us. We believe that “all people” means every single rakyat who lives in the tanahair Malaysia, whether in the Pakatan-controlled states or otherwise. The prime minister has also affirmed that the federal government has no problem discussing projects slated to be implemented with these new state governments (NST, Mar 26).
